West Coast

Imagine Dragons

West Coast Lyrics

[Verse 1]
One more day we'll spend together
Let your eyes look up upon me for the better
Oh, I know I'm worse for weather
But, my love, I won't give up
Spend my days cursing my soul
Wishing I could paint my scars and make me whole
Oh, I know I could be better
But, my love, I won't give up

[Pre-Chorus]
I ain't no Superman, I ain't no Holy Ghost
I'm just the one that keeps you up at night, you love the most

I'll be your strong man, I'll be your West Coast
I'll be the sun, I'll be the waves, I'll be the one you love the most

[Chorus]
Ooh, hey, hey, hey, oh
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
I'll be, I'll be, I'll be, I'll be, I'll be your West Coast, honey
Ooh, hey, hey, hey, oh
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
I'll be, I'll be, I'll be, I'll be, I'll be your West Coast, honey
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh

[Verse 2]
I'll change my ways if you would stay
And all your tears that you have cried will go away
Oh, just grant me one more day
Oh, my love, please don't give up
See the Devil at my door
I see the future of the ones that I've ignored

I guess I was born to be at war
And, my love, I won't give up
So, my love, please don't give up

[Pre-Chorus]
I ain't no Superman, I ain't no Holy Ghost
I'm just the one who keeps you up at night, you love the most

I'll be your strong man, I'll be your West Coast
I'll be the sun, I'll be the waves, I'll be the one you love the most

[Chorus]
Ooh, hey, hey, hey, oh
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
I'll be, I'll be, I'll be, I'll be, I'll be your West Coast, honey
Ooh, hey, hey, hey, oh
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
I'll be, I'll be, I'll be, I'll be, I'll be your West Coast, honey

[Outro]
Ooh, hey, hey, hey (Gonna give you that feeling)
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
I'll be, I'll be, I'll be, I'll be, I'll be your West Coast, honey (Gonna give you that feeling)
Ooh, hey, hey, hey (Gonna give you that feeling)
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
I'll be, I'll be, I'll be, I'll be, I'll be your West Coast, honey (Gonna give you that feeling)

About “West Coast”

“West Coast” was released on November 9th, 2018 alongside their album fourth studio album, Origins. The song takes influence of Country-Pop, reminiscent of their origins as a folksy pop band.

The song features Dan expressing his commitment to the one he loves, seemingly his ex-wife Aja Volkman.

  • What have the artists said about the song?

In an interview with Zane Lowe on the day “Machine” was released, Wayne Sermon talked about the meaning of the song:

Yeah we’re [taking a break] now, it feels really good. The last few weeks we’ve had just chill, and it’s kind of incredible to be in like a house, sleep in the same bed; you forget these things."

[Zane:] “And to be able to reflect what’s going on in the lives of the people you care about without feeling like you’re 5,000 miles away…”

Definitely. Now that you bring it up, that’s actually a pretty common theme on the record that I sort of just noticed. There’s definitely songs like “West Coast” and a few others that sort of talk about feeling guilty about ignoring the people you love in your life. I mean, we’ve been a band for a decade, and we’ve kind of had to neglect people that we really don’t want to, people who are really close to us: old friends, and family and stuff. So, yeah, it does take a toll, but the tiniest violin comes out as I complain about being a musician."
