Nicki Minaj Says She Almost Recorded An Entire Collaborative Mixtape With Future

“It’s very hard to make those types of ideas come to fruition.”

Paper Magazine debuted the full interview accompanying its eye-popping Nicki Minaj cover story today, and it’s filled with interesting information about her career and upcoming album. When discussing the possibility of a “female version of Watch the Throne, Nicki explained that she’d only consider doing that type of album with a high-profile artist like Beyoncé.

Soon after, however, she also revealed that she recently considered linking up with Future for an entire project:

I mean, I even at one point was about to do a mixtape with Future recently, [but] with me working on my album and with him doing other projects – and he thought we should be in the same place at one point to really vibe – it was hard, ‘cause he was on tour and I was in the studio [and the timing didn’t work]. So even when you like an artist and you respect their work, it’s very hard to make those types of ideas come to fruition, but when they do come together like the Jay and Kanye [project], then it’s magic for sure.

Nicki and Future collaborated earlier this year on “You Da Baddest,” which the Freebandz boss retroactively added to his February album HNDRXX. In June, they also joined forces for DJ Khaled’s “I Can’t Even Lie.” They’ve previously appeared together on two other DJ Khaled songs as well as Rich Gang and DJ Clue posse cuts.
